Nadal to play for Spain in Davis Cup final

SEVILLE, Spain, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- World No. 2-ranked Rafael Nadal will lead the Spanish team into the Davis Cup final next week against Argentina in Seville, Spain.

Spain is looking for its third Davis Cup title in four years and fifth championship overall in the best-of-five series Dec. 2-4. Argentina has never won the Davis Cup but finished second three times, including in 2008 when it lost to Spain 3-1.

The matches will be played on Spain's preferred red clay surface at Seville's Olympic Stadium.

In addition to Nadal, Spain will have fifth-ranked David Ferrer on hand for singles. Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco are expected to play the doubles match.

Argentina is countering with Juan Martin del Porto, David Nalbandian, Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco.

Spain is 3-0 all-time versus Argentina in Davis Cup series play. In addition to the 2008 finals, the teams met in the 2003 semifinals and the quarterfinals in 1926.
