Bears add lineman Carimi to IR list

CHICAGO, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears announced that right tackle Gabe Carimi was the second starting offensive lineman to go on injured reserve this week.

Carimi joined left guard Chris Williams on the IR list to allow his knee to recover from arthroscopic surgery performed Nov. 11 on a knee subluxation suffered back in Week 2 against New Orleans. He will miss Sunday's home game against the San Diego Chargers.

"I have no shame in telling you that he (Carimi) was playing the best football of the group before the injury," Offensive line coach Mike Tice said Friday. "When you lose a player that was your best lineman at the time, that's not a good thing."

The Chicago Tribune said Carimi had been walking unassisted this week. However, the team decided not to risk his recovery by suiting him up against the Chargers.

Lance Louis has been playing in Carimi's slot and Edwin Williams will move into the left guard spot.
