LONDON, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Janko Tipsarevic, who finished 2010 at No. 49 in the world, has improved to a career-best No. 9 ranking in the men's tennis rankings updated Monday.
Tipsarevic saw his late-season charge for a berth at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals come up just short but it still moved him into the Top 10 and has him the first alternate for the Tour Finals in London.
His move from 11th pushed Nicolas Almagro down a slot to 10th and Juan Martin del Potro to 11th. Almagro will go to London as the second alternate
Tipsarevic and Almagro may see action as world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 8 Mardy Fish withdrew from matches at the Paris Masters with injuries. However, neither player's Web site said he has yet withdrawn from London.
Djokovic will take the world No. 1 ranking into the Tour Finals, with Rafael Nadal at No. 2 followed by Andy Murray and Roger Federer, who has won his last two tournaments. Federer is also the defending Tour Finals titlist.
David Ferrer is ranked fifth and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga improves one place to No. 6 this week -- tying his career-best first reached three years ago. Tomas Berdych slips one place to seventh and Fish is eighth.
Those eight players earned automatic invitations to the Tour Finals.
The Tour Finals event begins Nov. 20.
