Spurs GM Buford cited for DWI

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- San Antonio police say Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford was charged with drunken driving after a traffic accident.

Buford, 51, wasn't hurt when he allegedly plowed into a fence late Friday, but he allegedly was found to have an open container in his vehicle.

The Spurs issued a brief statement Saturday confirming the arrest and including a statement of apology from Buford. The NBA team said Buford was diabetic and experienced a low blood-sugar level just before the crash just west of downtown San Antonio.

Police said they drew blood from Buford after the crash. His blood-alcohol level was not immediately released.

The San Antonio Express-News reported Buford was the third member of the family to be busted for drinking and driving since 2009. His son, Chase, and Alexis Wangmene, for whom Buford is legal guardian, were also arrested on DWI charges. Both young men were college basketball players at the time.
