NHL: Philadelphia 3, Buffalo 2

BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Sean Couturier and James van Riemsdyk scored 13 seconds apart during a three-goal first period Wednesday and Philadelphia held on to edge Buffalo 3-2.

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed two re-directed shots to get past him, but made 29 saves in helping the Flyers improve their road record to 4-1 -- best in the Eastern Conference.

Couturier scored 1:43 into the contest and van Riemsdyk quickly beat Ryan Miller with a slap shot to make it 2-0.

Scott Hartnell scored on a slap shot with 6:23 having expired in the first, driving Miller from the game. Miller allowed the three goals on 11 shots and Jhonas Enroth came on to stop all 15 attempts he faced.

Andrej Sekera scored his first goal of the season for the Sabres in the second period and Luke Adam got one by Bryzgalov in the third. Buffalo lost for the fourth time in five games.
