BOSTON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to groping a woman in a Boston nightclub.

Edelman was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment on a charge of indecent assault and battery, the Boston Herald reported. A municipal judge ordered him to keep out of Storyville, the upscale jazz club where the alleged assault took place, and stay away from the woman he allegedly attacked.

The police report said Edelman was on the dance floor at the club early Tuesday when he allegedly fondled the woman's private parts, sticking his hand under her Halloween costume. A man who was there said he saw Edelman bump the woman and then watched as her face expressed shock.

All three were thrown out of the club, the witness and the woman first when the man said he would beat up Edelman.

Edelman, 25, was a seventh-round draft pick for the Patriots in 2009. He was a quarterback at Kent State in Ohio.
