KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Ryan Succop's 30-yard field goal 5:16 into overtime Monday handed the Kansas City Chiefs a 23-20 victory over San Diego.
Matt Cassel drove the Chiefs 69 yards on 14 plays during the game-winning drive, with the key play coming on a 17-yard pass to Steve Breaston on 3rd-and-14 at the Chargers' 47-yard line.
After the Chiefs positioned the ball with a 3-yard Thomas Jones run, Succop converted his third field goal of the game, sending Kansas City (4-3) to its fourth straight win and a share of the AFC West lead with San Diego and Oakland.
Cassel finished 19-of-32 through the air for 261 yards, a TD and two interceptions while Jackie Battle gained 70 rushing yards and scored on 19 carries for the Chiefs.
Phillip Rivers (26-of-41, 369 yards, two interceptions) seemed on well on the way to winning the game in regulation when he drove the Chargers to the Chiefs' 15-yard line with a minute left. But he fumbled the snap from center on 1st-and-10 and Kansas City's Andy Studebaker recovered the ball, assuring overtime.
