NHL: Edmonton 4, St. Louis 2

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Edmonton's Ryan Smythe scored twice in the second period Sunday and the Oilers earned their fifth straight win with a 4-2 decision over St. Louis.

Smyth's first tally 7:31 into the middle frame broke a 1-1 tie. His second came on a power play 10 minutes later and extended the Oilers' lead to 4-1.

In between, Jordan Eberle netted a goal for the Western Conference leaders, who took a fifth straight win for the first time since December 2009 and improved to 7-2-2 to start the season.

Shawn Horcoff also scored and Nikolai Khabibulin raised his season's record to 5-0-2 by turning aside 28-of-30 shots in the victory.

David Backes and Chris Stewart scored and Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves for the Blues, who finished a four-game road trip with a 2-2 record.
