DENVER, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Matt Duchene scored the go-ahead goal in the third period Sunday and the Colorado Avalanche logged their first home win of the year, 3-2 over Los Angeles.
With the score tied 2-2 early in the frame, Duchene used a Kings defenseman as a screen and fired a wrist shot past Jonathan Quick into the upper corner of the net.
Chuck Kobasew notched a short-handed goal in the first period and Milan Hejduk scored on a power-play in the second for the Avalanche, who came into the contest with an 0-3-0 home record.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 30-of-32 shots to earn the win.
Scott Parse and Anze Kopitar netted goals and Quick finished with 13 saves for the Kings, whose five-game winning streak against the Avalanche was snapped.
