NHL: Edmonton 2, Washington 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Jordan Eberle broke a tie with a power-play goal in the second period Thursday that sent the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 victory over Washington.

It was the first loss of the season for the Capitals, who had won their first seven.

Karl Alzner opened the scoring for Washington 5:36 into the contest and Taylor Hall tied it on the power play with 1:45 to go in the initial period. Edmonton won its third in a row.

Nikolai Khabibulin made 33 saves for the Oilers while Tomas Vokoun stopped 17 shots in taking the loss.

Washington trailed after two periods for the first time this season.
