Breeders' Cup shifts race order

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Goldikolva's chance for a fourth-consecutive win at the Breeders' Cup Mile led organizers to switch the race order for the second day of the Breeders' Cup.

The Breeders' Cup is to be contested Nov. 4-5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. There are 15 races with a total purse of $26 million.

Goldikova, a French-bred entry, has won 17 of her 26 starts including four consecutive Prix Rothschild and the Breeders' Cup Mile in 2008-10.

"Due to the heightened international interest in Goldikova's quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive TVG Breeders' Cup Mile, we believe that moving the Mile to later in Saturday's program will provide a fitting tribute to this extraordinary challenge," said Breeders' Cup Ltd President Craig Fravel.

"Given the Triple Crown implications of the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile, we also believe that placing this race later in the program puts the spotlight on next year's potential stars going into their 3-year-old campaigns."

The updated schedule for Nov. 5 calls for the card to start with the Marathon, followed by the Juvenile Turf, Sprint, Turf Sprint, Dirt Mile, Turf, Juvenile, Mile and Classic.

Organizers said the first-day schedule, to be run Nov. 4, remains unchanged with, in order, Juvenile Sprint, Juvenile Fillies Turf, Filly and Mare Sprint, Juvenile Fillies, Filly & Mare Turf and the Ladies' Classic.
