Top-seed Monfils makes Stockholm finals

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Gael Monfils of France and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland won their semifinal matches at the Stockholm Open Saturday.

Monfils had his hands full with Canadian Milos Raonic but advanced with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3 victory and a berth in Sunday's title match.

Monfils took control of the evenly fought battle when he broke Raonic's big serve at 3-3 in the third set.

Nieminen rallied to beat two-time Stockholm champ James Blake of the United States in another hard-fought contest with a 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-2 win.

Sunday's finals will be the second of the year for Monfils. Nieminen has been runner-up in Stockholm twice.
