NHL: Winnipeg 5, Carolina 3

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Jim Slater ignited a three-goal, second-period outburst Saturday that carried the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-3 victory over Carolina.

Slater wound up from the left circle and beat Carolina's Brian Boucher with a slap shot 4:29 into the middle frame, breaking a 2-2 tie and putting Winnipeg in front to stay.

Andrew Ladd and Evander Kane each added goals within the next 3 minutes and the Jets logged their second victory in their new home of Winnipeg following road losses in Toronto and Ottawa.

Alexander Burmistrov and Kyle Wellwood also scored in the win.

Ondrej Pavelec was pulled after allowing a pair of first-period goals on five shots and Chris Mason earned the victory by turning aside 18-of-19 the rest of the way.

Jeff Skinner had a goal and two assists and Boucher finished with 19 saves for the Hurricanes.
