NHL: Chicago 3, Colorado 1

DENVER, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Patrick Sharp scored the go-ahead goal 7:20 into the third period Thursday and Chicago downed Colorado 3-1 to halt the Avalanche's five-game winning streak.

The only other setback for the Avalanche this season had come in their season opener and they were locked in a 1-1 tie with Chicago heading into the third.

Sharp snapped the deadlocked with a wrist shot and Marian Hossa added some insurance by scoring shorthanded with 1:10 to play.

The Blackhawks captured their second straight. Cory Crawford stopped 31-of-32 shots to win for the third time in four starts.

Ryan O'Byrne delivered the only Colorado goal, tying it late in the second period after Jonathan Toews had scored for Chicago.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 of 29 shots in taking the loss.
