NHL: Colorado 3, Toronto 2 (OT)

TORONTO, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- David Jones scored on a rebound 1:11 into overtime Monday and the Colorado Avalanche continued their strong start with a 3-2 win over Toronto.

Kyle Quincey launched a shot from the left point that Toronto goalie James Reimer kicked out, but Jones pounced on the rebound, sending a backhander into the net for the game-winner.

Daniel Winnik and Milan Hejduk also scored for the Western Conference-leading Avalanche, who improved to 5-0 on the road and 5-1 overall to start the 2011-12 season.

Jean-Sebastian Giguere stopped 27-of-29 shots to earn the victory.

Nikolai Kulemin poked home the rebound of a Dion Phaneuf shot with less than 5 minutes in regulation to produce a 2-2 tie and send the contest into extra time.

Phil Kessel scored his sixth of the season and Reimer turned aside 21-of-24 shots for the Maple Leafs.
