NHL: Minnesota 2, Edmonton 1 (SO)

ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Devin Setoguchi scored in the fourth round of the shootout Thursday to bring the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 decision over Edmonton.

Both sides scored once during the first three shootout rounds and Setoguchi gave the Wild a win by lifting a wrist shot high to the stick side of Nikolai Khabibulin.

Shawn Horcoff had a chance to extend the shootout, but his attempt bounced off the right pad of Niklas Backstrom.

Edmonton lost for the first time this year, having won its only other appearance at home.

Ryan Smyth gave the Oilers a first-period lead but Matt Cullen tied it with his third goal of the season midway through the second.

Edmonton has lost in each of its last 17 trips to St. Paul. The Oilers' last win in Minnesota came in January 2007.

Backstrom made 21 saves to get the victory.

Khabibulin stopped 34 shots.
