Rollins: I'd like to stay with Phillies

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Philadelphia shortstop Jimmie Rollins said Tuesday he would return to the Phillies if he can get a five-year contract out of the team.

"If everything is the same, I won't go anywhere," Rollins said. "If it is something crazy [from another team], then it is something that I will think about."

The 12-year veteran said he is looking for a five-year deal, or perhaps a four-year contract with a player's option for a fifth season.

Rollins, a three-time all-star and Gold Glove winner with a .272 career batting average, told reporters at the team's post-season press conference that although he has another birthday coming up, he still has a lot to offer on the field.

"I'll be 33 by the time I get the contract, which means I still have probably about a good six years left of being able to perform at a high level," he said.

The Phillies, who were eliminated last week by St. Louis in the National League Division Series, already have one of the oldest teams in the major leagues and could be looking to get younger.

General Manager Ruben Amaro said losing Rollins "would be a huge blow for us, but not insurmountable."
