NHL: Montreal 5, Winnipeg 1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Tomas Plekanec had a goal and two assists Sunday and Montreal spoiled Winnipeg's first game in their new city, spanking the Jets 5-1.

Yannick Weber added a goal and an assist as the Canadiens regrouped from a loss to Toronto in its season opener to administer a one-sided loss in the Jets' Winnipeg debut.

The former Atlanta Thrashers were playing their first regular-season game since relocating to the Canadian home. It was the first NHL game in the city since 1996, when the previous Jets moved to Arizona become the Phoenix Coyotes.

Carey Price made 30 saves in the Canadiens' win.

Nik Antropov scored the Jets' first goal while goaltender Ondrej Pavelec stopped 17 shots at the MTS Center.
