Astros' Schafer in marijuana arrest

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Houston Astros outfielder Jordan Schafer has been arrested in Florida and charged with one count of felony possession of marijuana, authorities said.

Schafer, 25, was arrested in Tampa early Tuesday after police pulled over his 2008 Land Rover for an expired license plate and noticed a "strong odor of marijuana" coming from the vehicle, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Police said they found a clear plastic bag with a leafy substance that tested positive as marijuana.

The 25.9 grams found exceed the 20-gram cutoff for felony charges rather than misdemeanor charges, they said.

After being booked, Schafer was released on $2,000 bond.

The Astros have declined to comment on the arrest.
