ATHENS, Ga., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- University of Georgia outside linebacker Cornelius Washington has been suspended for two games after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported police said Washington, 22, was arrested early Sunday after being stopped in Commerce, Ga., for allegedly driving 92 mph in a 55-mph zone.
Under UGA Athletic Association policy on DUI charges, Washington will be suspended at least from Saturday's game at Tennessee and the Oct. 15 game at Vanderbilt, Coach Mark Richt said.
Police said Washington had been pulled over on northbound U.S. Highway 441 at 1:48 a.m., about 10 hours after his team's 24-10 win over Mississippi State.
A breath test showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12, and the legal limit is 0.08, police said.
Washington, who was charged with DUI and speeding, was released from Jackson County jail on $3,500 bond.
A 20-year-old female, one of three passengers in the 2009 Dodge Journey driven by Washington, also was arrested on a charge of underage consumption of alcohol.
The Journal-Constitution said Richt met Sunday with Washington, the team's sack leader.
"He's sick. He feels awful. He knows that he let the team down, let his coaches down, let his family down, the Bulldog Nation in general," Richt said.
