ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- B.J. Upton's first-inning homer set the tone Sunday and the Tampa Bay Rays moved closer to the American League wild card lead with a 5-2 win over Toronto.

Ben Zobrist followed one batter later with an inside-the-park homer, Evan Longoria added a two-run shot and Kelly Shoppach also went deep for the Rays, who cut Boston's lead to a half-game in the AL wild card race.

The Red Sox split a doubleheader with the New York Yankees Sunday.

Wade Davis (11-10) tossed eight solid innings to earn the victory, allowing a pair of runs on only three hits while walking two and striking out six.

Toronto's Brett Cecil (4-11) was tagged for four runs on five hits in a 3 1/3-inning effort.
