Haas wins Tour Championship, FedEx Cup

ATLANTA, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Bill Haas made par on the third playoff hole Sunday, edging Hunter Mahan for the Tour Championship and winning the $10 million FedExCup prize.

After the two golfers finished at 8-under-par 272 and parred the first playoff hole, Haas made an impressive save on the second, pitching from a water hazard to within 3 feet of the hole.

They went to No. 18 for the third extra hole, where Haas hit the back fringe with his tee ball but Mahan drove into a right greenside bunker.

Mahan blasted to within 15 feet and Haas' birdie try from the fringe rolled 4 feet past the hole.

Mahan's par effort missed badly to the right but Haas sank the winning putt, earning him $11.44 million, including $1.44 million for winning the Tour Championship and $10 million for claiming the cup, the championship trophy in the PGA Tour playoffs.

Haas entered the event in 25th place but finished 15 points ahead of Webb Simpson, who led entering the tournament.

World No. 1 Luke Donald fired a 1-under 69 to join K.J. Choi (70) and third-round co-leader Aaron Baddeley (72) in third place at minus-seven.
