Pervak wins WTA's Tashkent Open

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Ksenia Pervak collected her first WTA title with a straight-set victory Saturday over Eva Birnerova at the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan.

Pervak, the tournament's No. 1 seed, piled up seven service breaks in taking a 6-3, 6-1 decision in 71 minutes.

Birnerova was good on 81 percent of her first serves, a percentage that usually indicates a strong service game result. But Pervak won two-thirds of the points off Birnerova's serve in posting three service breaks in the first set and four in the second.

The victory will boost Pervak from her current career-best No. 51 spot when the women's tennis rankings are updated Monday. It was her second final of the year. She dropped the title match in Azerbaijan to Vera Zvonareva in July.

Pervak collected $37,000 for the win. Birnerova, No. 115 in the world, earned $19,000 as the runner-up in her first WTA championship match.
