DAYTON, Ohio, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A mixed martial arts pro faces up to 23 years in prison and a $34,000 fine for allegedly starting a brawl with police at a Dayton, Ohio, bar, officials said.
Nikolaos R. Boscarino, 27, has been charged with felonious assault and resisting arrest related to the fight that injured three Dayton police officers, an off-duty West Carrollton officer and two witnesses who helped subdue Boscarino, the Dayton Daily News reported Tuesday.
Authorities say Boscarino has a history of violent assaults, and served 20 months of a four-year sentence for a 2002 assault in what authorities termed a "gang fight."
Police say the bar brawl began when Boscarino and two other men were denied entrance to the bar because the bar owner deemed them to be intoxicated.
Boscarino allegedly assaulted Daytona police officer Donnie Smith, who called for backup after unsuccessfully attempting to Taser Boscarino.
Police said it took the efforts of the four officers and two bystanders to get Boscarino under enough control to handcuff him.
