NFL: San Diego 24, Minnesota 17

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Fullback Mike Tolbert caught a tie-breaking, 9-yard scoring pass late in the game Sunday, boosting the San Diego Chargers to a 24-17 victory over Minnesota.

Tolbert's score with 5 minutes remaining was his third touchdown of the day and came at the end of a six-play, 64-yard drive engineered by Philip Rivers.

Tolbert, who left the game with an apparent leg injury, rushed for one touchdown and caught two more from Rivers, who racked up 335 yards on 33-of-48 passing with two interceptions for San Diego (1-0).

Minnesota (0-1) was leading 17-7 lead at the half, but was shut out from there.

Donovan McNabb, playing in his first game as a Viking, finished with just 39 yards on 7-of-15 passing with one touchdown and an interception.
