CARSON, Calif., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Charlie Davies scored three times on feeds by Chris Pontius Saturday in D.C. United's 3-0 decision over Chivas USA.

Davies got the ball past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in the 11th, 15th and 66th minutes. However, Pontius left the game 7 minutes later when he was injured on a reckless challenge by David Junior Lopes, who drew a red card for his unlawful tackle.

The win put United one point ahead of Red Bull New York in the East. The Red Bulls played a 1-1 draw with Vancouver earlier.

Chivas remains in seventh place in the West.
