MLB: Kansas City 2, Seattle 1

SEATTLE, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Everett Teaford notched a win in his first major league start and Alex Gordon drove in both Kansas City runs Sunday in the Royals' 2-1 win over Seattle.

Teaford (1-0), a rookie with 23 relief appearances this year, pitched five shutout innings, scattering three hits while walking only one and fanning five.

Blake Wood tossed two shutout relief innings and Joakim Soria racked up his 28th save for the Royals, who split a four-game series against the Mariners.

Gordon drove in runs with doubles in the third and seventh innings.

Seattle's Anthony Vasquez (1-3) absorbed the loss, surrendering just the two runs on seven hits over six innings.

Ichiro Suzuki's RBI double in the eighth provided the Mariners' only tally.
