"I'm just lapping it up right now," Wright said afterward. "I've always wanted to be in [the finals] with Kelly."

The finals of the inaugural Pro New York took place on Long Island in well-formed left-hand swells of 3-to-5 feet. Slater scored the only perfect 10 of the day in his semifinal win over Australian Taj Burrow.

Wright moved into second place in the ASP standings with 31,900 points. Slater still leads the tour with 34,950 points.
