The White Sox are a distant 8 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central.

Cleveland starter David Huff (2-4) was on the mound to start the seventh and opened the inning with a walk to Alexei Ramirez. Alex Rios then singled and Morel homered to left with one away.

The White Sox continued by loading the bases on a walk, single and hit batter before Konerko connected for his grand slam off Josh Judy, the third Cleveland pitcher of the inning.

Matt Thornton (1-4) picked up the win by striking out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief. It was the first victory of the season for a player who was a member of last year's American League All-Star team.
