OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Guillermo Moscoso carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning Wednesday and the Oakland Athletics backed him with 13 hits in their 8-0 win over Kansas City.
Moscoso (8-8) was working on a perfect game into the sixth inning when Alcides Escobar drew a two-out walk. He continued with a no-hit bid until two outs in the eighth, when Salvador Perez broke it up by lining a solid hit to right.
Moscoso yielded only one walk and struck out four, throwing 86 of his 129 pitches for strikes in the gem.
Jemile Weeks went 4-for-5 with an RBI double and Scott Sizemore drove in a pair for the A's, who salvaged one win in a three-game set against the Royals.
Kansas City's Bruce Chen (10-7) was roughed up for six runs (five earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 frames, walking three and fanning two.
