MLB: St. Louis 4, Milwaukee 2

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Kyle Lohse's six shutout innings and Jon Jay's two RBI for St. Louis Tuesday fueled the Cardinals' 4-2 win over Milwaukee.

Lohse (13-8) won for the fourth time in five starts, handcuffing the Brewers on four hits while walking three and striking out six.

Jason Motte picked up his third save despite allowing a run on three hits in the ninth as the second-place Cardinals evened their three-game set with the National League Central-Brewers and cut their deficit to 9 1/2 games.

Jay socked a solo homer in the third and added an RBI single in the seventh for the Cards, while Matt Holiday and Lance Berkman each contributed two hits and an RBI.

Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo (15-10) was touched for three runs on four hits over six frames.

Prince Fielder and Jonathan Lucroy drove in the Brewers' runs.
