SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Star Houston running back Arian Foster rushed for 38 yards Saturday before leaving with a hamstring injury in the Texans' 30-7 defeat of San Francisco.
Foster was injured after carrying the ball eight times. He led the Texans with 1,616 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 327 carries last season.
Matt Schaub racked up 180 yards and a touchdown with an interception, and Neil Rackers booted three field goals, including one from 47 yards, for the Texans.
Derrick Ward bulled in for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter at Candlestick Park, where new liquor-control and tailgating rules were in effect in the first game since two 49ers fans were shot after the annual 49ers Oakland Raiders pre-season contest.
San Francisco got only 17 yards on 2-for-6 passing from Alex Smith, while Colin Kaepernick managed 52 yards and an interception on a 6-of-16 performance.
