Bjorn wins playoff at the Johnnie Walker

AUCHTERARDER, Scotland, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Thomas Bjorn won a five-man playoff Sunday to capture the Johnny Walker Championship in Scotland.

Bjorn carded three consecutive birdies on the 18th hole at Gleneagles to prevail over the other four members of the largest playoff field in European Tour history.

Bjorn outscored George Coetzee, Pablo Larrazabel, Bernd Weisberger and Mark Foster. Foster was one hole away from winning in regulation but bogeyed the 72nd hole of the tourney to fall back into the pack.

Foster, who had led after three rounds, double-bogeyed the fourth hole of the playoff to fall out of contention.

Sunday's win was the second of the season for Bjorn, who was 11-under 277 at the end of regulation.
