Foster owns lead at Gleneagles

AUCHTERARDER, Scotland, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Mark Foster shot a 6-under-par 66 and owns the lead after Thursday's play at the European Tour's Johnnie Walker Championships in Scotland.

Foster had eight birdies -- six on his first nine holes -- and two bogeys on the day and is ahead of Ignacio Garrido and Tano Goya, who each had six birdies and a bogey en route to 67s Thursday, by one stroke.

Three players are tied at 4-under.

Dense fog delayed the start of the tournament by more than 2 hours and many golfers will have to finish their first rounds before second-round play Friday. The four best scores still on the course are 3-under. That included amateur James Byrne, who had played just 11 holes.

Foster played the second nine of the Gleneagles Hotel course first Thursday. He opened with a par but then ran off four consecutive birdies. He capped his first nine with birdies at Nos. 17 and 18.

A birdie at the second hole got him to 7-under but he gave back strokes at Nos. 4 and 7. A birdie at the eighth hole put him in the lead.
