PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Nick Evans hit a three-run home run in the first inning Wednesday, sending the New York Mets off to a 7-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The win snapped a five-game New York losing streak.
Evans' second home run of the season landed deep in the left-field seats. He knocked in another run in the fifth inning and finished with three hits to go with his four runs batted in.
Mike Pelfrey (7-10) collected the win in a six-inning outing in which he allowed three runs and nine hits while walking two and striking out two. All of the runs he allowed came in the second inning.
Bobby Parnell pitched the ninth for his first save.
The Mets got to Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick (7-6) for six runs -- only two of which were earned -- and seven hits in four innings.
Evans' home run capped the four-run New York first, but the Phillies got back within 4-3 an inning later when Shane Victorino's two-run single keyed a three-run rally.
New York scored single runs the next three innings. David Wright led off the third with his 11th home run of the year and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Evans doubled in the final New York run in the fifth for a 7-3 lead.
Hunter Pence's RBI single in the seventh finished the scoring.
