MIAMI, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Bronson Arroyo worked eight shutout innings Wednesday and Cincinnati held on in the ninth to edge Florida 3-2 in the second game of a doubleheader.
The Reds earned a split after dropping the opener 6-5.
Arroyo (8-10) won for the first time in two months, giving up six hits without a walk. Cordero collected his 28th save, but not without some drama.
Mike Stanton reached with one out in the ninth on a throwing error by third baseman Miguel Cairo, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Greg Dobbs.
Dobbs then came in on a single by Gaby Sanchez, but Cordero retired the next two batters to end the game.
Joey Votto had an RBI single during Cincinnati's two-run first and added a solo homer in the third. He also had a home run in the first game and has 24 for the season.
Chris Volstad (5-11) took the loss, giving up the three runs on five hits in five innings.
