PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Shane Victorino and John Mayberry each belted a third-inning home run Tuesday and the Philadelphia Phillies went on to rip the New York Mets 9-4.
Victorino's solo blast broke a scoreless tie and Mayberry connected for a three-run shot. The Phillies have outscored the Mets 19-4 over the first two contests of a three-game set.
Rookie Vance Worley (9-1) yielded just one run on nine hits, escaping several jams with strikeouts, and also drove in a run.
The Phils have posted victories in each of Worley's last 12 starts, the longest such streak for a rookie hurler since the Texas Rangers won 12 straight games started by Bobby Witt in 1986.
National League East-leading Philadelphia has won each of its four series against the Mets this season.
New York's Jonathon Niese (11-11) was rocked for eight runs on 10 hits after lasting just four innings.
Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer for the Mets.
