MLB: Arizona 2, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Sean Burroughs socked his first homer since 2005 Tuesday and the Arizona Diamondbacks ended a six-game skid with a 2-0 win over Washington.

Burroughs' two-run shot in the seventh provided the game's only runs. It was his first long ball since April 30, 2005, and handed the D-backs a victory in the second contest of a four-game series in Washington.

Ian Kennedy (16-4) became the National League's first 16-game winner, allowing six hits over seven shutout frames while striking out eight and walking two.

Arizona, which came into the came leading the NL West by one game over San Francisco, lost outfielder Justin Upton with a left elbow contusion after he was hit by a pitch.

The D-backs also pulled off a trade before the game, receiving second baseman Aaron Hill and infielder John McDonald from the Toronto Blue Jays for second baseman Kelly Johnson.

Washington's Jordan Zimmermann (8-11) was tagged for two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 frames.

The start of the game was delayed by 21 minutes following Tuesday's East Coast earthquake. No damage was reported to Nationals Park.
