MLB: Philadelphia 5, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Roy Oswalt threw eight shutout innings while Jimmy Rollins and Wilson Valdez both knocked in two runs Saturday in Philadelphia's 5-0 win over Washington.

Oswalt (6-7), who took the mound after his scheduled Friday start against Washington was pushed back by a rain delay, yielded eight hits and a walk but struck out nine in keeping the Nationals from reaching home.

The veteran right-hander notched season highs in strikeouts and innings pitched.

With the win, the Phillies established a franchise record by going 31 games without back-to-back road losses. They last dropped two straight away games in May and early June.

Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 for the Nats.
