MLB: Milwaukee 6, New York Mets 1

NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee both had a pair of RBI singles Friday and Milwaukee waited out a long rain delay before downing the New York Mets 6-1.

The game was 3 hours late starting due to the persistent rain and the New York bats never got warm.

Milwaukee bounced back from a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, improving to 20-3 since July 25. The Brewers' lead over second-place St. Louis in the National League Central grew to eight games.

Fielder opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first and had another in the fifth. McGehee drove in a run with a base hit in the fifth and did the same thing in the sixth.

Shaun Marcum (11-3), who had not figured in the decision in any of his previous three starts, gave up a lone run on six hits in seven innings for the victory. His last loss came nine starts ago June 29.

Mike Pelfrey (6-10) was charged with three runs on eight hits in five innings to suffer the loss.
