MLB: San Diego 3, Florida 1

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Tim Stauffer bounced back from two rough outings with a seven-inning effort Thursday that carried the San Diego Padres to a 3-1 victory over Florida.

Stauffer (8-9) equaled a club record by giving up five home runs in just three innings against Cincinnati last Saturday and he had surrendered three homers in his previous appearance. This time he allowed only a run on five hits while striking out five.

The Padres scored all their runs in the first two innings. Jesus Guzman tripled in two in the first and Logan Forsythe had a sacrifice fly in the second.

The only run off Stauffer came on John Buck's seventh-inning homer.

Heath Bell worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the Padres to earn his 33rd save.

Javier Vazquez gave up the three runs on five hits over five innings to suffer the loss.
