NFL: Carolina 20, New York Giants 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Cam Newton passed for 134 yards in his professional debut Saturday and the Carolina Panthers posted a 20-10 pre-season win over the New York Giants.

Newton, the top overall pick in this year's NFL draft, played the second and third quarters. He finished only 8-of-19 through the air but led the Panthers on two drives, each of which resulted in a field goal.

Jimmy Clausen and Derek Anderson also saw action and both passed for touchdowns in the win.

Clausen launched an 18-yard scoring strike to Greg Olsen and finished 4-for-7 for 69 yards while Anderson went 3-of-4 for 71 yards in the final quarter.

Eli Manning started for the Giants but Sage Rosenfels played much of the contest and went 13-of-19, tossing for 129 yards.

New York got its only touchdown on a 56-yard interception return by Michael Boley.
