FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rookie Steven Ridley scored twice on the ground and once through the air Thursday to send New England sailing to a 47-12 exhibition win over Jacksonville.
Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady sat out the game but New England still showed plenty of offense, with 476 total yards. The two recent high-profile Patriots' acquisitions -- receiver Chad Ochocinco and defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth -- also had the night off.
Backup quarterback Brian Hoyer completed 15-of-21 passes for 171 yards for New England and hit Taylor Price with an 11-yard scoring throw in the second period.
Third-round draft pick Ryan Mallett out of Arkansas was 12-of-19 for 164 yards and threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Ridley in the third quarter to give the Patriots a 33-9 lead.
Ridley scored on runs of 1-yard each in the first and third periods. He gained 64 yards on 16 carries and caught seven passes for 47 more.
Rookie Blaine Gabbert, the 10th player chosen in this year's draft, completed 9-of-16 passes for 85 yards and led Jacksonville to three first-half field goals.
