Scott caps Akron win with near-eagle

AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Australian Adam Scott capped a victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Sunday by nearly carding an eagle on the final hole, settling for a 5-under-par 65.

Scott came close to holing a fairway shot from more than 200 yards out on the 72nd hole of the tourney, then rolled in a 5-foot birdie putt to wrap up a four-stroke victory on the South Course at Firestone Country Club.

Scott finished at 17-under 263, four better than world No. 1 Luke Donald and Rickie Fowler, each of whom closed with 4-under 66s to share second place at minus-13.

Sharing fourth place were Jason Day (69) and Ryo Ishikawa (69) at 12-under 268.

Seven-time Akron champion Tiger Woods, meanwhile, rebounded to an even-par 70 after carding birdies on three straight holes from the 15th. He ended at 1-over 281, good for a share of 37th place.
