PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Mike Chabala drove a shot across the goal mouth and into the right corner Wednesday to start Portland on its way to a stunning 3-0 win over Los Angeles.
Jorge Perlaza and Eric Brunner also scored for the Timbers, who handed Los Angeles only its third loss of the season.
The Galaxy had a 14-game unbeaten streak halted, during which they had won eight and tied six. Los Angeles (12-3-9) had not lost since May 1 against Dallas.
Portland (7-10-4) came into the game with the second most losses in MLS.
Chabala's goal came in the 26th minute and Perlaza gave the Timbers a 2-0 halftime lead.
Brunner scored on a header from in close in the 68th minute off a cross from Sal Zizzo.
Although Los Angeles has played three scoreless ties this season, this was its first shutout loss of the year.
