KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Billy Butler broke things open with a three-run home run in the seventh Wednesday, boosting the Kansas City Royals to a 6-2 triumph over Baltimore.
Butler also had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, in a game between the teams with the two worst records in the American League.
Alcides Escobar produced a two-run triple for the Royals in the second for a 3-1 lead and Manuel Pina, making his major league debut, had two hits and scored a run.
Pine was called up to replace catcher Matt Treanor while Treanor is on the disabled list with a concussion.
Luke Hochevar (8-8) earned the win by allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
The loss went to Jeremy Guthrie (5-15), who was touched for six runs on eight hits in seven innings.
