Granollers claims Swiss Open championship

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 31 (UPI) -- Marcel Granollers picked up his second career ATP title with a three-set victory over Fernando Verdasco at finals of the Swiss Open tennis tournament.

Granollers dropped serve just once in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Verdasco. It was his first tournament title since winning in Houston in April 2008.

Verdasco fell to 5-11 in tournament finals. Sunday marked his third runner-up finish of 2011.

Granollers won more than 70 percent of the points on serve, including 84 percent when he landed his first serve. He lost his serve in the second set, costing him the set, but only faced one breakpoint in the first and third sets while getting a break in each to win the set.

Granollers collected $104,000 for the victory. Verdasco settled for the second-place check of $55,000.
