Peer, Petrova win in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md., July 30 (UPI) -- Shahar Peer and Nadia Petrova, the top two seeds in the tournament, continued on a collision course for the title Friday at the Citi Open.

Peer, the No. 1 seed, coasted past Alberta Brianti in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-2. Peer had lost in the first round of her last four events before reaching the semifinals in this one.

The second-seeded Petrova fought off Bojana Jovanovski 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

Peer will face Tamira Paszek in the semifinals after Paszek won over Stephanie Dubois 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Irina Falconi earned a semifinal meeting with Petrova thanks to a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Virginie Razzano.
