OTTAWA, July 29 (UPI) -- A Canadian professional wrestler is suing Abdullah the Butcher for $6.5 million, alleging the star gave him Hepatitis C during a bloody 2007 fight.
The lawsuit was filed by Devon Nicholson of Ottawa, who fought briefly under the name Hannibal with World Wrestling Entertainment, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
It alleges that in a match in Alberta in May 2007, Abdullah the Butcher had parts of a razor blade taped to his fingers to draw blood and that's how Nicholson acquired the disease.
Abdullah is also a Canadian whose real name is Lawrence Shreve. He now lives in Atlanta and declined to answer questions from the CBC. He has previously denied testing positive for Hepatitis C.
The lawsuit seeks damages for the cancellation of Nicholson's three-year contract with WWE in 2009 after he tested positive for the disease.
In March, Nicholson posted a video on YouTube called "Don't Bleed on Me" in which he explains how he determined the alleged source of infection.
"After thinking about it a while, I came to the conclusion that the only way I could have caught this disease, since it was blood-to-blood, was during the bloody matches I had with Abdullah the Butcher," the ex-fighter says in the video.
