COLLEGE PARK, Md., July 27 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Nadia Petrova earned her second quarterfinal appearance of the year Wednesday with a win over Eugenie Bouchard at the inaugural Citi Open.
Petrova, playing in her first event since reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, defeated Bouchard 6-2, 6-2. Her only other trip to the quarterfinals in 2011 came in Austria prior to the French Open. She lost on that occasion to Daniela Hantuchova.
Bojana Jovanovski will meet Petrova in the quarterfinals after eliminating Jill Craybas 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
In other second-round matches Wednesday, Virginie Razzano ousted Elena Baltacha 6-4, 6-2 and Irina Falconi advanced when Zhang Shuai retired in the second set due to the heat.
Razzano and Falconi will meet in the quarterfinals.
The second round will be concluded on Thursday with No. 1 seed Shahar Peer taking on Alla Kudryavtseva in the featured match.
